Communications Intern Position: Communications Intern – through August 31, 2008
Summary Description
The Providence Forum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a national focus, whose mission is to preserve, defend and advance the faith and values of our nation’s founding. We accomplish this by exemplary, irrefutable primary source historical research, including the personal writings, journals and speeches of historical figures, and through the publishing of bestselling books, production of compelling media projects, and participation and speaking at select events, presenting the fruits of our research.
The Providence Forum is seeking a recently graduated, or part-time student to assist with communications outreach activities during this 2008 summer internship. The intern will assist in a number of unique projects. This internship may develop into the possibility of a fulltime position with The Providence Forum at the conclusion of the internship period, on or about September 1, 2008.
Essential Duties
• Creation and development of creative and effective communications and marketing projects to internal and external audiences
• Writing and editing of periodic electronic and printed newsletters, e-mails, press and media releases and advisories
• Media relations activities, monitoring, and reporting
• Routine updating of and content creation for website
• Assist in planning and execution of special events
• General assistance to Executive Director and The Providence Forum staff
Minimum Qualifications
• Keen interest in American history and Christian heritage
• Completed studies in journalism, communications, marketing, and/or public relations. Some graphic design and layout skills a plus.
• Knowledge of and experience in website content management. Web design skills a plus.
• Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to interact professionally with VIPs, the public and the media. Excellent writing and editing skills a must.
• Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office. Web development and design software experience a plus.
• Ability to work independently and within a cohesive team.
A minimum of 20 hours per week is strongly desired. Internships are unpaid, but a weekly stipend will be provided.
This position is ideal for students passionate about the truthful representation of American history, our nation’s Christian heritage and the worldview of our founding fathers.
